Took a stroll into ‘old’ Las Cruces… Mesilla. . it reminds me of a lot of historical districts that for better or for worse have gone the quaint shoppe way (hmm… like Stillwater, MN?) but there’s a lot more shootings, mayhem and death immediately associated with any number of structures here! And it really lets you walk about in a totally different way of living in a hot arid environment and some bona fide old frontier locales… alas, it was Monday, so a place that looked like the only decent dive bar around was closed, Fountains.
But, the Billy the Kid gift shop was there, where he was judged and condemned to hang. But more interestingly, when these here parts were all one big territory, it was the store was the capitol of Arizona/New Mexico. . And then the other gift shop where the owner was killed by bandits, etc, etc…all very Deadwood and Hell on Wheels.
Feeling the level of heat that could be a daily factor here, the density of adobe, the inherent softness of the adobe edge of things all made total sense…perhaps as climate change continues this might be an apt aesthetic structural approach and solution… and gotta say, love the color palette of the buildings and doors…
…it seems. Bye for a while!
LOL webcam Photos make me look Frampton.
